When packing business attire for Youth in Government, many people debate on whether they want to dress long-sleeved or short-sleeved. According to an Instagram poll by the Media team, 71% of the 51 respondents like wearing long-sleeved outfits while 29% like short sleeves.
Some people consider the weather when picking outfits. “It’s colder outside and I usually bring my coat,” said Lale Akkin from the Mounds View delegation, who chose to wear long but thin sleeves.
Many think about wearing layers to have options during the conference. “You can put a sweater over it when it’s cold,” said Virginia Rainaldo from the St. Anthony Village delegation, who preferred wearing short sleeves. Whether it is hot or cold out, it is always nice to wear layers.
Others think about how professional they may look. “I prefer long sleeves. I feel more comfortable and professional,” said Nicole Ogranorich from the Wayzata Delegation. According to a study from the National Library of Medicine, people perceive long-sleeved business attire as more professional than short-sleeved.
Some just look in their wardrobe and wear what they find. “I don’t own short sleeves,” said Bergen Rohlwin from the Eagan delegation.
If delegates ever wonder what to wear to YIG, most people choose long sleeves because they think it looks more professional, while some dress in layers to be able to have short sleeves when it is hot. Whichever one people like more, every delegate brings style to the YIG conference.
