At Friday’s evening activities, you probably noticed delegation shirts everywhere. Most had a quote on the back with meanings most delegates would not understand at first glance. Here are the backstories of some shirts and what they mean.
A delegation leader from the Shakopee Delegation wore a hot pink shirt with a quote on the back: “They (referring to those outside of YIG) hate us cause they ain’t us. It means you might be a little jealous of our swag, you might be a little jealous of the way we are represented here, but that is only because you want to be us.”
Isaiah Ricks from the Red Wing Delegation wore his red shirt quoting the song “Slow Ride” from the Beastie Boys: “They got a committee to get me off the block.” His passion for YIG is clear when he explains his outfit. “If you were to get me away from [YIG], they’d have to send me to a mental institution.”
Olivia Sackie from the Western Wisconsin Delegation wore her shirt that said, “Democracy must be learned by each delegation.”
Karysa Brown from the Carlton Delegation wore a shirt quoting the new and popular Barbie Movie that said: “Our delegates are Kenough.”
Naomi Musta from the New Prague Delegation used a Hamilton quote on her shirt. “If you stand for nothing what will you fall for?” To Naomi, her shirt means “that you have to stand up for things that are right and things that are just because if you don’t stand up for what is right, you’re going to end up falling for things that are not just, just because you weren’t aware what you were living for…..YOLO.”
Mahamud Dalmar from the Statewide Delegation wore his delegation shirt saying, “2 cool 4 a school.” He says “that’s right because none of us have a delegation, so we’re all just too cool for school.”
Bridget Feyo from the Rogers Delegation wore her delegation t-shirt referencing the TV show “Friends,” stating: “The one where we ran the government.”
