On April 3rd tragedy struck at the Port Sudan refinery. A giant explosion occurred, causing crude oil to catch fire. Due to the fires, Port Sudan has been suffering through temperatures of around 100 degrees Celsius for 4 days straight. The citizens of Port Sudan are suffering tremendously through the extreme temperatures. Alongside with spiking temperatures, agriculture has been hit hard. Farming fields have been burned due to the persistent fires. Citizens are starving.
Through the evidence collected officials have determined that Emirati nationals and RSF (Rapid Response Force) fighters are responsible for the explosion. Sides have been accused of using sexual violence as a weapon along with bombing civilian infrastructure. Oil has managed to seep into the Red Sea, calling for a mass clean up. Officials fear for the long term environmental impact. Intense questions have been sparked on how to deal with this crisis. Humanitarian efforts are needed more than ever.
