The ICJ has had a number of court cases throughout the past few days and has a few more left before the end of the conference. These court cases are published outside of the ICJ room for all to see. An example of one of the results of these cases is in the case of Russian Federation vs Japan.
After a long and somewhat intense discussion the Russian Federation came out on top in this heated debate.
The following prayers were ruled in favor of the Russian Federation by the court.
- Affirm the Russian Federation’s sovereignty over the Kuni Islands
- No monetary reparations will be awarded due to lack of specification.
- Call on Japan to formally recognize Russian sovereignty and cease all legal claims over the Kuril Islands.
- Current Kuril islands residents (native and russian) are safe from deportation as long as the Russian Federation maintains control.
