Each year, delegates line up to elect directors and presidents for the various organs and program areas featured at the conference. This election is an opportunity to exercise the civil right of democracy, and gives us all the power to determine our future. Yahira Baretto-Paredes, the Conference Resource Center Director/Deputy of Elections, gave us the inside scoop on voting this year. Read up and prepare to vote this afternoon!
What time is voting?
From 3:30 to 5:30, beginning during program area time and ending during dinner.
Yahira says, “Make sure to get there a little early so that you’re not waiting in a long line. You’ll need about five minutes to vote.”
Where do I go to vote?
Voting will take place on the fourth floor, in the main area of the lobby where the photobooth was placed last night during evening activities.
Can I vote for a candidate that is not in my organ?
No. delegates are only able to vote for candidates that are in their organ or program area. For example, if you are in Mondale GA, you may only vote for someone running to be president of that organ. But, all delegates will be able to vote for the SGO, which is a new position as of this year.
Where can I find information on the candidates?
The voter’s guide will provide information on each candidate, and will be posted on the YAPP.
Make sure to research well and go into this election well-informed. Next year, it might even be you on the ballot.
