Neal Gysland is the conference photographer. Neal became the dedicated conference photographer in 2016. First it started as a side job. Well, he was a specialist. He enjoyed taking photos, so he took his camera along it “slowly progressed” into becoming only photos for the last five years. Now he works alongside some of the media team with the photographers.
Delegate Neal
Growing up Neal was a very quiet kid. He joined MUN as a sophomore from the New Prague delegation following his sister in 2009. When Neal was sitting in the back of his Human Rights Council room he was approached by the secretariat, Brendan Fridler from New Prague. Brendan said “I haven’t heard you talk yet”. Neal replied with “I don’t really know anything”. Together they sat down for an hour and did research on his country. This “capaluted” to Neal doing research on his own. Neal had a lot of efficacy placed in him he says “all because a college student gave me a voice”.
Returning
After Neal’s years as a delegate he came back to be secretariat for four years. He returned again as a specialist and bounced around in different roles until he “carved out” his full time conference photographer role. Ever since sophomore year Neal has never missed a MUN conference.
